Agnes Obel - Citizen of Glass
Meanwhile, Obel’s label PIAS has supplied official key infos on the new release: “Citizen Of Glass” will be the name of the new album which is set to be released on October 21st. It is more home-grown than anything the Berlin-based artist put out before, as she composed, recorded and produced the whole thing herself – in her own Aventine Studio and BrandNewMusic Studios in the German capital. John Corban Kristina Koropecki and Charlotte Danhier were responsible for the violin and cello parts.
Agnes Obel Artist
Conceptually, Agnes Obel advanced on sociopolitical ground – as the album’s name already implies. “The title comes from the German concept of the ‘Gläserner Bürger’, the glass human or citizen”, the singer explains. “It’s actually a legal term about the level of privacy the individual has in a state, and in health it’s become a term about how much we know about a person’s body or biology or history – if they’re completely made of glass we know everything. There’s an increasing sense in this world that you have to make yourself a bit of glass. To be willing to open up, use yourself as material, and not just if you’re an artist or a musician.” Obel made herself try something new in order to also let go of her accustomed musical patterns.
With the predecessor, “Aventine”, Obel made it into the album charts. Including the 2010 debut “Philharmonics”, more than one million Agnes Obel albums have been sold so far.
