Shy Girls Info Album
Headed nowhere fast. The themes of Shy Girls' beautiful new song is right there in the title, "Trivial Motion." And if that's unclear, it's further compounded in the opening lines: "There is no time."
"A lot of the new album is about my struggle coming to terms with absurd constructs and this song is definitely an example of that," Shy Girls told Complex via email. "I had been plucking that doo-wop chord progression on my guitar for months and finally found the song for it. And I don’t know why but there’s something kind of sad about that chord progression to me." From its sweeping John Hughes synths to the tender lyrics beset by an earworm of hook, two things are guaranteed: you will be in your feels, and you will have it on repeat.
Career-wise though, Shy Girls couldn't be on more of an opposite track. He's on the precipice of real momentum now with this strong offering serving as the first push towards his debut album which is finally scheduled to impact in January. Complex has been into the Portland-based singer/songwriter—real name Dan Vidmar—since he dropped his mixtape 4WZ in winter 2015. In the year that followed, Vidmar has refined his ethereal, lush sounds into something magnetic and undeniable.
